Science and scientific literacy play a key role in educating citizens of today for the world tomorrow. The Science 10 B.C. Curriculum surveys are range of science topics that include the chemical processes, energy and energy conservation, biodiversity, and the formation of the universe. Through participation in co-operative labs, projects, discussions and appropriate questions, and other classroom experiences, students acquire knowledge, skills, and attitudes that enable them to pursue further study and develop a lifelong interest in science and the attitudes that will make them scientifically literate citizens.
In order for students to acquire this knowledge, skills, and attitudes, students are expected to spend a little bit of time each evening engaging with what we are learning. This will include reviewing class notes, reading, taking notes and answering questions from the text, worksheets, or practice questions. Homework checks will be done periodically. As well, quizzes will be given to ensure that you are keeping up with the work. Major tests will be given at the end of each unit.
Units and Big Ideas:
1) Science Fundamentals – the scientific method
2) Chemistry - Chemical processes require energy change as atoms are rearranged.
3) Physics - Energy is conserved and its transformation can affect living things and the environment.
4) Biology – Genes are the foundation for the diversity of living things.
5) Space Science - The formation of the universe can be explained by the big bang theory.
